Head of the Community Medical Division, Clalit Medical Services

Dr Nicky Lieberman studied medicine 1972-1979 at the Tel Aviv University. He specialised in internal medicine (1982-1988) at Meir Hospital, becoming chief resident after six months and Deputy Director of the Hospital at the end of his fifth year of specialization until 1993.

Following this Dr Lieberman was Medical Director of the Sharon-Shomron District in Clalit Medical Services. Clalit being the largest HMO in Israel and one of the largest in the world, and Sharon Shomron district being its second largest district. He held this position from 1993 until 1998, and introduced risk management, quality assurance, and disease management in the district.

Since 1998 he has been Head of the Community Medical Division, being unofficially the chief physician of the HMO. Clalit’s ”diabetes programme” has been running from

1995 as an implementation of the St. Vincent declaration, and later being led by Dr Lieberman as a disease management programme for primary care to treat diabetes.
